Elijah Genetzakis

Elijah Genetzakis is a researcher at the Institute for Cardiovascular Regeneration at Goethe University Frankfurt. He earned his PhD in Pharmacology and Cardioimmunology in 2025 at the University of Sydney, Australia, where his work led to the development and patenting of a novel series of P2X7R-targeting compounds as a potential treatment for coronary artery disease. In 2024, he moved to Frankfurt for a research stay supported by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) and the University of Sydney to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

In 2025, Elijah joined Professor Stefanie Dimmeler’s group as a postdoctoral researcher. His research focuses on less-studied signals in cardiovascular inflammation that shape immune cell behaviour and interactions. Drawing on his background in drug discovery, Elijah enjoys bringing together ideas from different fields to challenge established thinking and open up new directions in cardiovascular research.

Aside from his scientific work, Elijah also has a degree in history and a particular fascination with the Byzantine world. When he is not reading about late antiquity, he can often be found running along the River Main or cycling around Frankfurt.
