Dr. Veronica Larcher is a cardiovascular scientist interested in one of the heart’s most complex responses to injury: fibrosis. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Milano-Bicocca and completed her PhD in cardiovascular research, focusing on epigenetic mechanisms in cardiovascular disease. As an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at Goethe University Frankfurt, she then moved into the field of cardiac remodeling, investigating the role of fibroblasts in the injured heart.
At the Institute of Cardiovascular Regeneration her research now focuses on how different cell types communicate within the heart and how signals between the heart and other organs contribute to cardiovascular disease. By combining cellular, molecular and spatial approaches, she aims to uncover how these communication networks become dysregulated and identify new strategies to prevent or reverse pathological fibrosis.
She is passionate about creating a collaborative environment where young scientists can explore ideas, challenge assumptions and develop their scientific thinking. Outside the lab, she enjoys climbing and cooking.
